What Is Advanced Driver-assistance System (ADAS)?
Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) are electronic systems and technologies designed to enhance vehicles’ safety and driving experience. ADAS features use sensors, cameras, radar, and other technologies to automate, adapt, and enhance vehicle systems for safer and more efficient driving. Some common ADAS features include:
- Adaptive cruise control – Automatically adjusts the speed of your vehicle to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
- Lane departure warning – Alerts you when your vehicle drifts out of its lane.
- Blind spot detection – Alerts you when a vehicle is in your blind spot.
- Automatic emergency braking – Automatically applies the brakes if a collision is imminent.
- Rearview camera – Provides a clear view of what’s behind your vehicle when reversing.
- Parking assist – Helps guide you into a parking spot.
ADAS features can help prevent accidents, reduce the risk of injury, and make driving easier and more comfortable. However, it’s important to remember that ADAS features are not a replacement for safe driving practices and should always be used in conjunction with good driving habits.
How Often Do You Need ADAS Calibration?
Calibration of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) is necessary whenever work is done on the vehicle or its sensors are disrupted. For instance, if there is a cracked windscreen, the rain sensors and heads-up display require recalibration. Similarly, lane departure warnings and mirrors must be recalibrated if the vehicle is involved in a side collision.
There are two types of ADAS systems that Walker Cutting specialises in:
Passive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Passive ADAS have all the sensors of the active system, but only warns the driver of an unsafe incident. This means the driver has to take the action themselves and decide whether the risk will cause an accident. While this doesn’t remove human error it does aid the driver for a potential threat.
Active Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
An active ADAS will have all the same sensors as a passive ADAS but it will also make a decision to stop the accident from potentially happening. Normal driving functions will be able to carry out when there is no perceived threat. Our many satisfied customers value our services going the extra mile and helping keep you moving through positive reviews: why not bring your car for ADAS servicing to us for its next service and join them?
